The National Weather Service and Aviation: Working Together Since the First Flight
The Wright Brothers relied on information from the Weather Bureau Office in Kitty Hawk, NC, to plan and successfully execute their first flight back in 1903. The U.S. Weather Bureau issued its first aviation weather forecast in December 1918, for the Aerial Mail Service route from New York to Chicago.
