Historic Wright Brothers Mural
Decorates the wall
above the Postmaster's office inside the Williamston Post
Office. This mural has been a point of interest since 1940,
when artist Philip von Saltza of North Castine, Maine was
commissioned to paint the scene as a WPA project. The
artist, along with local citizens, chose a beach scene set
just after the historic 1903 flight as the subject for the
mural. The scene is of particular interest because of the
First Flight Centennial |
